Meet The Optometrists at Denny Vision
C.D. Denney, O.D.
Dr. C.D. Denney started Denney Vision with a unique vision for an optometry practice in Dothan, Alabama. With a lifetime of experience in family eye care, Dr. Denney was a trusted mentor to many eye care professionals and was highly respected by both his colleagues and patients alike. He was married for over 60 years to his wife Wilma.
His proudest accomplishment was their four children. Dr. C.D. served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was deployed to Europe for two of those years. After returning, he graduated from the University of Alabama and received his Doctorate of Optometry in 1950 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He will be dearly missed.
Dan Denney – Optometrist
Dr. Dan Denney received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama and received his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1988.
Dr. Dan Denney is a member of American Optometric Association, Alabama Optometric Association, Ocular Nutrition Society and the Southeast Area Optometric Society.
A Wiregrass native, Dr. Dan has been happily married to his wife Cathy since 1981. Dr. Dan is a family oriented doctor.
Andrew Maxwell – Optometrist
Dr. Andrew Maxwell has been an integral part of our effort to provide the best vision and eye care available.
Maxwell received a Bachelor’s of Science in chemistry from the University of West Alabama in 1980 and went on to the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he received his Doctorate of Optometry in 1984.
Dr. Maxwell is a member of the American Optometric Association, Alabama Optometric Association, and the Southeast Area Optometric Society where he has served as past president.
Dr. Maxwell is a native of Alabama and was raised in the small southwest town of Butler. He is a devoted family man, and he and his wife, Karen, have been happily married since 1985. They have two daughters; Hannah and Lydia. Dr. Maxwell also serves on the Providence Christian School board and is an active member at Mount Gilead Baptist Church where he serves as a Sunday school teacher and elder. He enjoys spending his free time with his family.
Megan Walker – Optometrist
Dr. Megan Walker received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Radford University in Virginia and her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After graduation she completed her residency at the Birmingham VA Medical Center, specializing in Low Vision Rehabilitation.
Dr. Walker is a licensed and certified Optometric Physician in the State of Alabama and is a member of the American Optometric Association, as well as the Alabama Optometric Association, where she previously served as the Southeastern Society President.
A native to Virginia, Dr. Walker grew up in Falls Church. She and her husband, Chris, have been happily married since 2005 and are active members at Covenant United Methodist Church. They enjoy spending their free time with their three children.
Kirk Jones – Optometrist
Dr. Kirk Jones is a native of Auburn, Alabama and earned his undergraduate degree from Auburn University in chemistry in 2005 and his Doctorate of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2010. He completed externship rotations at Vision America in Birmingham, Alabama as well as primary eye care rotations in Ft. Lauderdale and North Miami Beach, Florida.
Dr. Jones is a licensed and certified Optometric Physician in Alabama and focuses on primary eye care, including routine eye examinations, glasses, and contact lens fittings, refractive surgery/laser vision correction consultations, surgical pre and post-operative care, and the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and injuries including infections, diabetic eye monitoring, and glaucoma care.
Dr. Jones is a member of American Optometric Association and the Alabama Optometric Association. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Brittan, his son, Henry, and being with friends and family.
John Hornsby – Optometrist
Dr. John Hornsby began his education at Enterprise State Community College in Enterprise, Alabama. He received his Bachelor of Natural Science and Mathematics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1981, and graduated in 1985, from UAB School of Optometry.
Dr. Hornsby practiced in Geneva, Alabama for 24 years before joining the Denney Vision team in January 2014.
He and his wife of 30 years, Lea, have 2 daughters and are active members at Covenant United Methodist Church. Dr. Hornsby likes playing his alto saxophone in the Dothan Moonlighters band and in his church orchestra. He also spends his free time hunting and enjoying outdoor activities.
Ashley Bowers – Optometrist
Ashley Holloway Bowers received her Bachelor of Science in Biology with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000, and her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2004. While at UAB, she served as President of the American Optometric Student Association and received numerous awards including the Dean’s award upon graduation in 2004. She was inducted as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society while at UAB. After graduation, she practiced in Georgia and North Carolina before moving to Dothan. She joined the Denney Vision team in March 2014.
Dr. Bowers is a licensed optometrist in the states of Alabama and North Carolina. She focuses on primary eye care and family practice optometry including contact lenses. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, Alabama Optometric Association and the Southeast Area Optometric Society.
Dr. Bowers is native to North Carolina. She and her husband, Scott, have been married since 2004 and have two children. They attend First United Methodist Church in Dothan.
Kelly A. Smith, O.D.
Dr. Kelly A. Smith, O.D. has built her career on the motivation to give patients the first of sight, stemming from the moment she put on her first pair of glasses as a child. A native of Graceville, Florida Dr. Smith earned her Bachelor of Science from Huntington College in Montgomery, Alabama in Biology with minors in Chemistry and History. She graduated from UAB School of Optometry in 2005, having completed rotations in the UAB Eye Clinic as well as experience as a field optometrist at the Eglin Air Force Base in Okaloosa County, Florida.
Dr. Smith joined Denney Vision in July 2019 after practicing in Chipley, Florida since 2005. She is a member of the Alabama Optometric Association, the Northwest Florida Optometric Society, has served as the Vice President of the Chipley Lions Club, and is an Ambassador for Florida Baptist Children’s Home.
Dr. Kelly Smith currently resides in her hometown of Graceville with her husband Forrest Smith, and their three children.
